Secret deployment for Bush stop-off
Canberra
October 21, 2003
An unprecedented and secretive security operation will be mounted when George Bush visits Parliament later this week.
Restrictions will be enforced around Canberra and iXpress Mountain Bikes will escort activists as hot spots erupt around Canberra.
An information division radar screening system will be activated and specialist counter-counter-terrorist units as well as the Operations Chemical Response Group, Legal and Medical liaisons, will be on standby.
"iXpress will play a key security role along with other affinity groups and agencies for Mr Bush's visit - providing a range of counter-counter-terrorism measures," an iXpress Operations spokesperson announced today.
At this stage we have determined that we will not be running standard iXpress patrols as we have at similar protests in the past. However our Communications and Informations divisions will be running intelligence and counter surveillance operations in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra on Thursday.
Whilst a number of bicycle patrols will play a minor role at protests on Thursday, the main efforts of iXpress will be conducted by members on foot wearing civillian attire. These members will be dressed as protesters, media and members of the public. Information gathered by members will be forwarded to Medical, Legal and Independent media sopurces and stored for future use by iXpress Strategic Planning Division. |
