iXpress members will be better equipped to handle the winter climate
this year with the development of enhanced jackets, helmets and shoes.
The new jackets are made from polartech windbloc a synthetic material
designed to minimise wind penetration and provide greater warmth,
ventilation and comfort.
A representative from iXpress General Patrolling Department's
Strategic Planning Division said the innovative new uniform, will be
distributed to operational members during the next two months, with
those assigned to Maribyrnong protests this weekend set to benefit
first.
The improved garments were designed as a result of ongoing reforms
under a review of operational equipment. The new apparel features
several changes to the existing uniform, but would remain practical
for operational messengers.
"The helmets will include reinforced panels on the along with
brackets at the sides so that messengers can easily access
operational equipment including radio headsets, respirators and night
vision equipment," she said.
"To ensure iXpress members are clearly identifiable, the jackets will
feature the logo `iXpress' on the upper left chest pocket area, with
an embroidered logo above," she said.
"The new operational helmets also have several enhancements on the
existing ones and are designed to have a greater service life.
"Unlike the previous jackets, these new ones are designed to be worn
as an external operational garment.
"When worn together, the new jacket and helmet will provide
substantially greater thermal protection for members working in cold
weather conditions,".
The current patrol jacket and helmet would be retained as an optional
alternative until the new garments have been distributed to all
operational members.
Four new shoe options are also being made available to members,
depending on their operational requirements and footwear needs.
These options include the functionality to accomodate a variety of
clip in cleat designs for the range of pedals that iXpress use in the
field as well as some more practical shoes for our communications and
administrative staff.
"The underlying consideration with the new uniforms is to provide a
more operationally functional, warmer, and comfortable range of
clothing for iXpress members," she said.
